Call To Action: One Letter To Change The Lives Of Donkin Residents
At the beginning of the year reports of extremely loud noise coming from the mine rolled in as Donkin residents once again faced weeks of sleepless nights, thick emissions, and auditory assault.
Our residents deserve better. No one’s health and wellbeing should be sacrificed for resource extraction.
Below is a letter template to email to our Premier at premier@novascotia.ca
This letter is a call to this government to investigate, and intervene to free Donkin residents of this painful living situation:

Dear Premier Houston,
I live in eastern Cape Breton. I am writing to you about my serious concerns about the Donkin Mine in Cape Breton. This US owned mine continues to pollute high levels of methane and emits harmful tonal noise to those living near the mine. The emissions and health- harming noise have gone unchecked by your government despite repeated efforts by the community over the past six years. The American owned mine cannot be trusted to provide accurate readings and it is time your government intervened.

The record of the Donkin Mine is abysmal: multiple shutdowns, multiple roof falls, an underground fire, and most seriously to safety, a 3-tonne roof fall 90 minutes after miners passed through the area.

As Premier, we need your help and urge you to stop the loud and unsafe noise levels and address harmful emissions. The Cow Bay Environmental Coalition have also met with Environment Minister, Julie Dabrusin, who said she would investigate.
I support new industry in Cape Breton, but not at the expense of the health and safety of Cape Bretoners.
Yours sincerely,
